i really need to pick up something light here...i am currently reading
Dracula (and may i say that it is an awesome book!!! the writing is amazing!)
and
Lord of the Flies (another very VERY good book. rather depressing, but good all the same.)
so i am reading two very dark books. any suggestions for fun happy books?
Posted by hill at May 23, 2006 09:47 AMwhere do i start? i *love* kids books that are light and fluffy.
if you're interested in fairy tales, or anything to do with fairies, i suggest "the ordinary princess" by m.m. kaye, "the farthest-away mountain" or "fairy rebel" both by lynn reid banks. there's also "the mermaid summer" by someone i forget if you want something with a little twist. then you could always read "the westing game" a fun mystery and detective game for kids. "caddie woodlawn" is a good one if you like prairie type stuff. lois lowery wrote "the giver" if you're interested in an alternate future without the technology.
if this doesn't satisfy your fluff craving, i do have more i could reccommend.

bju's own dr. mcneely endorses this book pretty heavily. it's on my reading list, but I've not read it yet.
Posted by: Brade at May 23, 2006 04:10 PM"finn family moomintroll" (jansson) is a must!!! (and yes, "dracula" is FAnTastic! my copy is all kinds of marked-up with underlined passages. beautiful prose.)
also to read... "the enchanted wood" (blyton), "shakespeare's secret" (broach), "utterly me, clarice bean" (child), "the giraffe, pelly, & me" (dahl), "the neverending story" (ende), the viking quest series (l.w. johnson), lemony snicket's "unauthorized autobiography," "the trolls" (horvath- a must read!!!), and "mr. popper's penguins" (atwater). that enough before wednesday?

dracual is amazing. you're on the right track. if you want to read one of the most amazing literary gems every written, with the most descriptive and wonderful writing, and the most beautifully developed charcters, than read "My Friend Flicka" by Mary O'Hara. Amazing. I just finished reading it to my sister and she loved it. She almost cried. I always cry when I read it. but its a happy sad, not a bad sad. Awesomeness personified.
Posted by: esther at May 26, 2006 09:47 PMWOOT! Who recommended Dracula? Bringing down the house. Oh yeah, that was me. Rock your llama.
