i sat in my bed listening to music, eating doughnuts and drinking milk and reading a book. it reminded me of childhood. sometimes i wish i could return to childhood, but i don't think i want to relive jr. high.
Posted by hill at October 5, 2004 02:26 PMnot many moments i'd like to relive from jr. high, except for maybe just one more time in mrs. mcdowell's study hall - for a good laugh. as she put it, i was just as guilty as the rest of the bunch because i encouraged the poor behavior by my laughter...and i have a hunch merideth might have been laughing as well! :)
Posted by: hew at October 5, 2004 03:20 PMyes, jr. high would be a serious catch.
that and grad school.
donuts, though, and book in bed, those i can do.
again and again.
I really think we need to have some sort of national holiday in which everyone stays in bed and eats donuts and reads a book. I think that would be good for both the donut people and the book people. We could call it "Donut Day," and it would encourage literacy. And on that day, nothing could open before noon. All donuts would have to be purchased the night before--no sneaky running off to Dunkin Donuts to make up for a lack of planning.
And since religious holidays have been secularized, I wonder if we could make a purely secular holiday religious?
Posted by: froc at October 5, 2004 06:00 PMA day "in which everyone stays in bed and eats donuts and reads a book"? Huh. Sounds like part of what I did at work on Sunday...minus the staying in bed part. :-)
Posted by: kurt at October 5, 2004 11:47 PMI don't think I appreciate the book-bed-blueberry-filled more now than in junior high. That was definitely an age of illusion. The summers felt longer, though...
Posted by: timf at October 6, 2004 12:07 AMThere is a donut day! (right before lent, I think) But we used to make our own. I guess it would work to make them the night before and then stay in bed til noon with a book.
Posted by: momtoast at October 6, 2004 09:36 AMin elementary school we had a reading day. it was a public school mind you. we would bring in our pillow, sleeping bag, our favorite snacks and come in our pajamas. we would read all day. it was my most favorite day! i think they should have those days in college. =) i should put it in the "speak to me" box!
Posted by: hill at October 6, 2004 01:05 PMOh, definitely. Maybe that should be the new rule for the "Day of Rest."
Posted by: froc at October 6, 2004 02:22 PMamen! especially the pajamas...checkable ones that is.
Posted by: hill at October 6, 2004 02:43 PMagreed about the death to jr. high memories. i forbid anyone other than family to see pictures from those wretched years, though my mom tries earnestly to sneak them in.
great idea about reading in bed until noon, but must we partake of doughnuts? (i don't like them.) how 'bout just any generally unhealthy breakfast substitute, like a huge chocolate chip muffin from atlanta bread?
