Some very comforting thoughts from the best Book on earth. They give those who know the Lord Jesus Christ a reason for joy. Joy, not just when things are great, when you're feeling well, when your bank account's full, but also when you don't know where you're going to live, when you don't have a job, and when you're dying of cancer. Hear the Word of the Lord as spoken by the apostle Peter.
Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
Why can Christians be joyful in the midst of trials?
Several reasons can be found in this passage.
First: Because God, through His abundant grace, has begotten us again unto a lively hope. We're given hope just because we're His children.
Second: Because we've got a wonderful inheritance to look forward to for the following reasons:
Third: The trials are necessary for our growth. If God didn't care for us, He wouldn't give us opportunities to grow. Trials can be, therefore, a reassurance that God does indeed care for us.
Those are some very comforting reasons!
