Anyone that takes a picture with a camera is dancing with light. Light is what makes photography and sight, for that matter, possible. A photograph is light captured and fixed on a 2D format. It's my firm belief that learning light is a life-long endeavor for all photographers. It is a love-hate relationship, all depending on available light and how well the photographer knows that kind of light.
Or as Wikipedia would say: Photography is the process of making pictures by means of the action of light. Light patterns reflected or emitted from objects are recorded onto a sensitive medium or storage chip through a timed exposure. The process is done through mechanical, chemical or digital devices known as cameras.
I think my favorite thing about photography is the ability to capture a moment. Like all art, being able to convey a message, feeling, idea, or just simply beauty for beauty's sake.
Just stop and think of the tools that we've created to capture light versus the two tools that God has created in us to capture light; it will blow your mind. Our eyes are incredible! With the all the technology that we have, it is impossible to create a camera that can equal our eyes. These are a few things that a camera cannot match: 1. The range of sight (including peripheral sight) is unbeatable in any wide angle lens. It is possible to get the range, but not without distortion. 2. The speed of focusing is almost instant regardless of distance. 3. Our eyes can adapt to very small or very large amounts of light very quickly. 4. And the best part is that we do all this without giving it a thought.
God is good to give us these tools to see His creation and to give Him the glory that He deserves for the amazing display that we receive. It's exciting to think, that someday, with our heavenly bodies, we will see/capture His glory with new eyes.
