I'm siding more towards the latter. These are from an email (additive 1) forwarded repeatedly (factor 2). They purport to be views of Isabel from a ship. The shots are surprisingly clear, visually impressive, and just good enough to make me raise an eyebrow. (factors 3, 4, and 5) So what do you think...am i a cynic, or are they for real?
Posted by apelles at September 30, 2003 12:32 PMWhat if I say, "Yes"?
Posted by: Cathy at September 30, 2003 12:40 PMThey're aesthetic whatever they are. 8o)
Posted by: Benjamin at September 30, 2003 12:40 PMThat's cheating, Cathy. But I see both of your points. :-)
Posted by: apelles at September 30, 2003 12:42 PMWell, I was only trying to make one. Thanks for taking it well. It wasn't the gentlest.
Posted by: cathy at September 30, 2003 12:47 PMOh dear! I should have said, "I was trying to make only one."
Posted by: cathy at September 30, 2003 12:51 PMObviously, there's some husband-wife thing going on here. I don't know the story on your images, but I do know you can see a clearly defined cloud wall at the eye of a hurricane. I don't know about the outside, which yours look like.
If you suspect images (or stories) that are widely distributed on e-mail, check www.snopes.com to look at their veracity. (Be warned that the extremely useful site has been blocked by BJU filters in the past.)
Posted by: JRC at September 30, 2003 05:51 PMthanks jon. yep, those insidious husband wife things...:-) i'll check out snopes from home to see if i can find out anything.
Posted by: david at September 30, 2003 05:59 PMdave, they're for real.
reason i know is ryan boomershine sent them to me and he has only accidentally propagated a hoax one time in the entire half-a-decade that i've known him. (after which he promptly investigated and apologized.)
i would bet my [laundered] socks that these are authentic.
and the results are in...the answer is, I was wrong. partly. the pictures are for real (which i doubted). apparently, it's just that they're not of Isabel. here's what I found out
according to:
http://www.snopes.com/photos/isabel.asp
http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/i/isabel.htm
But see, now that I've visited these sights, I'm beginning to wonder how they know all the truth. I bet they're the ones that might be bending the truth. And who would know? Maybe they even started the rumors...I wonder if I'm on to something?
(if i die in a tragic media center "accident" in the next four days, go with the "i'm on to something." :-)
blah, blah, blah.
THERE AWESOME PICTURES!
Posted by: Whitty at October 2, 2003 03:42 PMDisregard previous post. I am under the influence of 10,000 mg of Advil.
Edit: THEY'RE AWESOME PICTURES!
Posted by: Whitty at October 2, 2003 03:44 PMI know I'm a little late on this, but I just wanted to let you know that you are right (now) in denying that these pictures are Isabel. Take it from a Virginia Beach resident. Nobody in VB saw anything remotely close to those pictures. The sky just got darker and darker and then it rained and then the wind blew all the trees over and then the wind died down and then the rain stopped and then it got brighter and brighter (and then we started clean up efforts which will last beyond Christmas!). So, in short, not Isabel.
BUT, check out legit pics of Isabel...from outer space!

If you would like to see some Isabel pictures from a resident of Va Bch check these out. They were taken either by me or my father.

This is what caused us to have no electricity for 8 days.
