What is he talking about?

In AW Tozer's book, "The Knowledge of the Holy," he quotes Frederick W. Faber's poem:

Darkness to the intellect
But sunshine to the heart.

Any guesses as to what he's talking about?

ok - so i just recalled that we are being serious here. sorry.

what's the context around the quote? he may be referring to the paradox that much of what we understand about The Holy (God) is still obscured/dim in comparison to the knowledge of His glory that we'll have in heaven as we are changed more and more into His image. at the same time, we know enough now to exult, enough to "keep [our] soul[s] happy in Jesus" as George Mueller used to say was his highest priority. We see through a glass darkly now, but we still experience comfort and joy and peace unlike anything the world has.

???? not sure the context, but there's a guess, just based on the "Knowledge of the Holy" title as a possible context.

In context:

It describes us silly fools that can, at times find reality and meaning in our relationship with God. Despite the "paradox" that it can't be explained tangibly and cognitively.

Out of Context:

In my personally my experience, I see a meaning out of Tozer’s context. In that, we consume so much time and effort trying to intellectually understand the deepness of God, Bible, and doctrine. We lose the simplicity of our charter. And as soon as life gets truly crazy and out of control, we realize that we haven't focused enough quality time on the love and forgiveness of God.

Perhaps that true spiritual understanding comes by faith through our hearts and not the fallibility of our minds.
