Yesterday, for the third time this summer, I nearly melted down the tea kettle. I came home after leaving Terry at work, filled the tea kettle, turned the burner on under it, and headed down the hall to my computer. Classes started for me on Wednesday and since two of my courses are online, I spend a lot of time in front of the computer. Two hours later I began to smell smoke. One of these days that kettle is going to fuse to the stovetop, or worse, the whole house is going to go up in flames. I used the microwave to heat my water for the rest of the day, and I'm beginning to shop for a tea kettle that whistles. I'm also beginning to think I need a keeper.
Posted by lsegolf at August 20, 2004 09:24 PMon a regular basis i leave water boiling (or, often worse, pasta or other substances boiling IN the water), kitchen sinks filling (or, very much worse to forget, tubs filling), doors standing unlocked all night, and so on and so forth. usually it is because i'm multi-tasking in the interim and get distracted. for instance,
"oh, i'll just go boot my computer up while the pasta boils."
or
"oh, i'll just read my email -- i won't reply just yet."
or
"i think i'll go out the back door so that i can put the trash can away on the way to work."
and then, voila, there are suds all over my floor or my house is unsecure for hours on end or i find myself scraping crispy noodles out of a pot and muttering things under my breath like "why would i wish me on any poor unsuspecting husband? i can barely stand to live with myself sometimes!"
all that to say this:
starbucks covers a multitude of these sorts of sins.
Yes, Starbucks can do wonders. Have you tried their Java Chip ice cream? It's superb stuff.

Posted by: timf at August 23, 2004 07:59 AMAre you a tea fan? I am an avid tea drinker. Of course, the teapot does not predicate the tea. You might have been making ramen. Or oatmeal.
Posted by: apple at August 25, 2004 10:23 AMYes, I am a tea person. I like a variety of types, but for everyday use I'm a Constant Comment fan. Pretty dull, huh? I especially like tea and scones. However, I think I use the scones as a vehicle for the jam and clotted cream that comes with them.
