I've been asked recently in comments for more of an update on work. I've gotten a new boss, and the transition has been smooth so far. In fact, I already knew the new guy before he was hired, so that helps. He's brought some new ideas that I look forward to implementing.
My load has gotten better as I've become more settled at the paper. We've reached a point where we are now talking about a complete redesign of the paper in the next few months.
Having been through that once before (see here and here), I know it's a lot of work, but I think the improvement it brings is incredibly valuable.
Much of my time is spent managing and editing -- surprise -- but I do still cover some news. In fact, check this news out. It's a major story for our small community. I got the story because I was attentive, curious, and willing to get dirty (literally). Thankfully I keep a pair of boots in my car.
I'm a little behind, but I should alert you to my brother-in-law's summertime blog, Music in the Mountains.
"S'more" is in Aspen this summer at the rather prestigious Aspen Music Festival and School. You can read more about it here.
We look forward to seeing more from this first-time blogger, especially if it's more frequent than the posts here and if there are more jealousy-inducing photos like this.
On Sunday, we made our first trip to church as a family. Only pastor's family and another couple had seen Gabe before that, so it was a big event for our little church family. At least we're helping the church grow!
Thankfully, little Gabe slept for the entire service, which was rather noisy at times.
What made the day even more special for Daddy was the fact that this was his first Father's Day from the father's side of the celebration. And it truly was fun getting cards from grandparents, the lovely wife, and the little buddy.
One thing that everyone in our house likes is cuddling on the couch. For us, it's usually the most reliable way to sooth a fussy baby. As you can see, both Mommy and Daddy take turns taking care of Gabe this way. But as you can also see, Mommy did a better job.
Mom: 2 sleeping
Dad: 1 sleeping (and not the baby)
Born: 30 May 2006
Weight: 7 lbs 13.3 ounces
Length: 19 inches
Mother and baby are both fine, in spite of a 30-minute power outage when the monitor and air conditioner ran on auxiliary power. It came at a time when Mom was transitioning and actually resting in the labor process.
Posting this on borrowed computer and internet connection, so more photos will follow when we're more settled.
