Last week Stellenbosch celebrated Easter with a week-long Autumn break! It was wonderful catching up on sleep and traveling the country with my sister Anna and her husband Jason. We did some hiking around Stellenbosch the first weekend they were here.

Anna and Jason in a tree house at Moyo. We didn't get to eat in it because of rain.
We also made it to Simon's Town to see the penguins (no babies yet) and then to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve--the south-westernmost tip of Africa. I witnessed two baboons snatch muffins out of an innocent consumer's hands! They rule that part of the peninsula. I didn't mess with them :-).
Anna and Jason traveled the Garden Route while I was in class the next week. Then on Friday all of us flew to Kruger National Park to spot some wild game. We saw zebras, elephants, water buffalos, haeyenas, jackals, and, my favorite, giraffes (I think it's something in their name . . .). Download file Anna and Jason had to leave Tuesday (I was so sad; still am!). We spent Monday evening with the Browns, missionaries in Jo'Burg (don't say "Jo-haaahnessburg," it takes too long). It was exciting fellowshipping with them and getting a feel for their church-planting ministry. Download file I hiked and socialized the next week before going to Cape Town for the weekend with Evis and Emily. We visited the District Six Museum (a former multi-ethnic area of Cape Town bulldozed during apartheid), bargained at the markets, and met up with friends for dining and sight-seeing.

This is me, Melanie (from here), Emily (US) and Evis (Switzerland). Doesn't Emily look like my sister Jessica?
I thought it was a break well spent, but the ugly reality of classes is hitting me once again . . . Oh! I bought this hand-made wire/coke can scraps radio in Cape Town that really works :-). I can play my iPod through it so I don't waste my computer's battery. I think it's so cool, so I have to show you a picture. Download file culture clash?
